Why Mind the Gap Exists

Mind the Gap was created by Cha Minseo to close the distance between young talent and real opportunity.

Across Asia, many students have imagination, sensitivity, and creative ability — but they may not have access to private teachers, expensive competitions, professional portfolios, or international platforms. Some students may not even know that their drawings, stories, songs, observations, or small creative attempts are worth sharing.

Mind the Gap is designed to be simple, welcoming, and motivating. It gives students ages 11–15 a chance to submit creative work, receive recognition, and, for selected students, connect with mentors and resources that match their interests.

This is not a competition only for the most polished students. It is a place for students to begin.

About the Organization

Mind the Gap began with a simple belief: opportunity should not depend on how much support someone already has.

For younger students, the gap may be creative confidence. They may have ideas, stories, drawings, songs, or performances — but no platform to share them.

For adult learners, the gap may be language access. In places where English education is expensive, adults can be blocked from better jobs, education programs, interviews, and daily confidence simply because they did not have affordable access to English learning.

Mind the Gap works across both spaces: youth creativity and adult English access. Both are about the same mission — helping people move closer to the opportunities they deserve.

A Note from the Founder

I started Mind the Gap because I wanted more young students to feel that their creativity matters. Some students already have access to competitions, lessons, and mentors — but many do not. I wanted to create a platform where students can submit work without feeling scared, confused, or not "good enough."

Mind the Gap is for students who are still growing. It is for the student who draws in a notebook, writes quietly, sings at home, takes photos of everyday life, or has a story but does not know where to place it yet. This platform exists to help them take that first step.
